Supervisor Competency Training Modules
12 training modules designed to develop the skills of a Supervisor in order to be deemed to be a "Competent Person" and to meet their section 27 duties under the OHSA.
Objective:
Participants in this program will be able to identify just what really constitutes the ‘Competency’ requirements as defined by the OHSA.
They will gain a greater appreciation of their roles and responsibilities under the Act. As they progress through the various modules, they
will also be given the tools to be become more effective as a coach, in resolving conflicts and in counseling and discipline. They will develop
better skills in order to perform more thorough investigations of accidents and injuries, to conduct more complete workplace inspections and to
recognize, assess and control workplace hazards. Their communications skills will be enhanced to enable them to present more valuable shift safety
talks and as well conduct more effective meetings with workers and co-workers alike.
Content:
All modules are based on one full day of training.
However it is often suggested that this day be split into 2 half-day sessions, in order to better accommodate the participant’s work schedules and to allow them preparation time for presentations, etc.
The second half of most modules consists of practical applications, case studies, role-plays or presentations by the participants.
The modules are very interactive with participants receiving a workbook, containing great reference material, and in the case of Module 1, a current copy of the Carswell edition of the OHSA.
Module 4 consists of 4 two-hour sessions dealing with specific hazards in the workplace that are deemed to be of great concern by both the participants and the employer.
